Los Angeles based multidisciplinary artist Joanna Grasso works in ceramics, painting, drawing, and site responsive performance and installation. With a deep interest in exploring the psyche and collective unconscious through intuitive practices, Grasso creates objects, compositions, meditations, and dioramas as part of her practice. Her work is inspired by mythology, archetypes, and alchemical iconography, as well as cultural traditions, rites, and rituals from around the world.
Some past projects include working with La Biennale di Venezia, The Bronx Museum, LVMH, Row DTLA, number_5 GmbH, the Red Earth Society in Zambia, Switzerland, and Haiti, and working as part of an international artist collective in South Africa and Italy.
Grasso studied at Instituto Lorenzo de’Medici in Florence, Italy, then went on earn her BFA in Painting and Drawing from Dominican University of California, San Rafael, and MFA in Exhibition Design and Museum Studies from California State University, Fullerton where she was awarded the Leo Freedman scholarship.
